Book #1

Worldliness: Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World
(edited by C.J. Mahaney)

"Life in this fallen world can draw our hearts far from God and from growth in godliness. Worldliness equips you to search your heart for the presence of worldliness and gives practical help for resisting the world's influence in the areas of media, modesty, music, and material possessions."

What it Meant to Me:
"I really appreciated this book because it helped me to establish good boundaries and checkpoints for abstaining from worldliness. The theme verse for this book is 1 John 2:15-16, which says "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world." The book is not what some people would call "legalistic", but it gives practical suggestions for ways that Christians can set healthy boundaries. I loved the book because it kept coming back to the cross, giving the reader the real reason why we should abstain from worldliness- not out of legalism, (trying to save ourselves with our good deeds) but out of joyful obedience and love for our Savior, Jesus Christ."
